Koncab, KCA, KWT carry out sterling work on vaccination

The KCA (Kanara Catholic Association), Koncab and KWT (Konkan Welfare Trust) got together to do their bit for vaccinating the members of their community to help in beating Covid.

In a well-organised drive that was personally supervised by KCA president, Hilma Roach, Koncab president Arun Fernandes and KWT president Sylvester D’Souza, a multi-day initiative was held from July 11 to 13 at Konkan Samuda Bhavan.

The effort was amazingly well-received. A stupendous 659 families attended this initiative to get their vaccinations and though this may sound a smaller number in light of the enormous campaigns ongoing in the city, it was a huge outreach for a small community, here, with a wonderful age range from 18 years to 93 years. Special mention must be made of 90-year-old Sheila Roy, the mother-in-law of Denis Lobo who took her first vaccination and is also a cancer survivor. It is examples like these which make initiatives like this a worthy endeavor and warm the cockles of everyone’s hearts.

The initiative at Konkan Samudha Bhavan was led by a team of BBMP doctors and nurses led by Dr Sunitha and Dr Ashwin who administered Covishield vaccines to all with full Covid protocols from hand sanitisation, physical distancing, masks and 30 minutes of supervised rest after vaccination. An ambulance was also on standby for any criticality as a backup.

This is the second vaccination drive by these committed associations and truly is in keeping with their ideals of service to the community.
